MAK Water is pleased to announce the release of a new series of Sludge Handling equipment – the, Dewatering Screw Press (DSP), available in a number of skid-mounted model sizes to meet your sludge dewatering needs:
Dewatering Screw Press (DSP)
MAK Water’s Dewatering Screw Press (DSP) is designed for efficient thickening and dewatering of liquid sludges that emanate from wastewater treatment processes.
Typical applications for wastewater treatment plants include dewatering of thickened or unthickened waste activated sludge (WAS), digested sludge from aerobic or anaerobic processes, and dissolved air flotation (DAF) sludges.
Benefits of MAK Water’s Dewatering Screw Press:
- Single-step dewatering from as low as 0.2% dry solids content to 15-20%DS cake (WWTP sludges)
- High recovery rate >95%
- Simple installation and small footprint
- Simple automatic (or manual) operation
- Low energy consumption
- Low wash water consumption
- Simple and low maintenance
- Low noise and vibration levels
- Suitable for a wide range of applications
- High quality workmanship
- Control Panel compliant with AS/NZ 3000
Equipment Description
Liquid sludge is pumped to the Dewatering Screw Press via an external feed pump. The sludge enters the Inlet Chamber, which is fitted with an overflow. Any overflow is directed back to the sludge source tank or process. The Inlet Chamber serves to optimise flow to the other parts of the machine.
The below video illustrates the Dewatering Screw Press in full effect:
Equipment Operation & Control
The Dewatering Screw Press is designed to run in AUTO mode, thus requiring little operator attendance. In AUTO mode the operator can check the status of the equipment and change operational set-points via the HMI touch screen located in the Control Panel.
The Screw motor is fitted with a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) which makes it possible to accelerate or slow down the screw rotational speed for optimal dewatering. The Mixer motor is also fitted with a VSD to allow the operator to optimise flocculation for the best possible dewatering results.
Trial and Rental plant
Each sludge dewatering application is different due to the sludge type and concentration, and the required degree of dewatering to be achieved. Key to sludge dewatering is the polymer selection and concentration, to achieving good flocculation. Bench testing is typically used to evaluate polymer selection and flocculation. Whilst our Dewatering Screw Press has demonstrated performance in many applications around the world, some clients may wish to trail the technology to prove performance. MAK Water has a containerized fully automated Dewatering Screw Press complete with polymer make-up system available for clients to trial and verify bench test results and dewatering performance. Trials are typically carried out over a few weeks.
Our containerized Dewatering Screw Press and polymer make-up system are also available for longer term rental for any sludge dewatering project of any duration.
MAK Water provides technical support throughout any sludge dewatering trial or rental arrangement, and we can tailor our input to meet customer-specific requirements.
Conclusion
MAK Water is proud of its reputation for innovation, continuous improvement and dedication to delivering a high standard of quality, safety and reliability.
The development and delivery to market of our Dewatering Screw Press is another example of how MAK Water delivers smart, water treatment solutions worldwide.
