Gas Energy Mixing System (GEM)
The Gas Energy Mixing) GEM® System is an innovative and patented approach to wastewater treatment. The GEM System removes higher levels of contaminants than conventional dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems, using less chemicals, while generating significantly drier sludge. The GEM System footprint is typically over 50% smaller than a typical DAF (dissolved air flotation) of similar capacity.
The GEM system utilises a unique approach to flocculation and floatation technology and outperforms other dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems. Instead of relying on a random collision process, the GEM System technology manages it by dissolving air into 100% of the waste stream.

removal efficiencies of total suspended solids (TSS), fats, oils and grease (FOG), and the suspended portion of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD).
The patented LSGM (Liquid Solid Gas Mixing) technology utilises specialized cartridges to generate energy and achieve complete air mixing throughout the entire waste stream. By efficiently separating solids from liquids, it effectively prevents their entry into the skimmer tank, ensuring optimal performance. The LSGM’s use hydrocyclone / centrifugal energy to provide extremely high energy mixing of waste water, oxygen and polymers. 100% aeration/oxygenation generates 1,000 times more NANO bubbles. The tank is only used for skimming solids and therefore can be very small.
The GEM footprint is 30 – 90% smaller than a conventional DAF’s footprint for the same throughput.

Oil Water Separators
MAK Water’s Clearmake™ oil and water separators are designed to remove free floating hydrocarbons such as diesel, hydraulic fluid and oil as well as heavier suspended solids from a wastewater stream. This form of oily water treatment is the minimum required prior to trade waste (sewer) discharge for any wash bay where hydrocarbons may be present.
Clearmake™ Separators are approved by:
Sydney Water – Ref: 2006-365
WA Water Corporation – Ref: JT1 2010 01224V01
Clearmake™ Separators test results and
Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) independent product appraisal report
CONSTRUCTION
MAK Water Clearmake™ oil & water separators are constructed from high quality 304 stainless steel. They can however be upgraded to 316 grade stainless steel for marine or corrosive environments. Larger models have frames manufactured in hot dipped galvanised steel.
Superior Vertical Tube Coalescing (VTC) technology facilitates improved oil separation, via the unique spiral tubes, designed to assist in exercising the free floating oils to the surface. These specifically designed VTC blocks also provide optimum flow, serviceability and durability.
TREATMENT RATES
Standard treatment rates range from 800 to 56,000L/h and custom systems can be manufactured to treat flow rates in excess of 250,000L/h.
CONTROL SYSTEMS
Clearmake™ controllers are manufactured to Australian Standards and configurations are available to meet Council requirements Australia wide. All separator control systems can be designed and manufactured to meet higher IP ratings, intrinsically safe standards for hazardous areas, spill control and general or specific mine specifications. The Clearmake™ standard controller comes with IP 53 rated GPO to facilitate site installation and pump replacements. Higher IP rated enclosures are available upon request.

Dissolved Air Flotation
The MAK Water Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system is a superior counter current system designed to achieve maximum treatment efficiency in a compact footprint. It is able to remove a variety of contaminants to meet trade waste or reuse requirements. Each system is sized based on the hydraulic loading rate, Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Fats, Oil and Greases (FOG) levels. The surface loading rate that can be applied is dependent on each application.
STANDARD PROCESS
The DAF separates the suspended solids and lighter liquid contaminants (eg FOG and hydrocarbons) from the water by moving them to the surface of the DAF vessel and then scraping them off the surface. A pressurised stream of airsaturated water is mixed with the flocculated water and with the release of pressure, a cloud of very fine air bubbles carries the suspended solids and lighter liquids to the tank surface. Clean water overflows from the DAF tank, via an under/over-weir to sewer or to the next stage of the treatment process. The overflow level is adjustable and controls the level in the DAF flotation section. The sludge on the surface of the DAF is scraped into a sludge hopper by a mechanical scraper. The DAF system is automated via a programmable logic controller (PLC) mounted within a control cabinet on the system.

Gravity Clarification
MAK Water’s, Clearmake™ range of Gravity Clarification (GC) systems are designed to clean water prior to reuse, or discharge to the sewer or the environment. These systems help to minimise the use of potable water or town water supplies while protecting the users and the environment from contaminants in the waste stream. MAK Water’s, Clearmake™ treatment systems are compliant with local Council, DEHP, DAFF + OH&S requirements.
Gravity Clarification is the process of clarifying water by using a flocculant to coagulate the suspended solids into heavier particles which then settle to the bottom of a tank/ clarifier. Different contaminants can have different settling times so Gravity Clarification Systems are designed to suit specific flow rates and factor in parameters such as types of contaminants, volume and surface area.
MAK Water has a range of Clearmake™ Gravity Clarifiers to suit most flow rates, we are also able to custom design a treatment system to suit specific needs and contaminants. Some of the key benefits are very few moving parts, ability to manage continuous flow and capacity to treat a myriad of applications.
MAK Water draws on a successful 20 years experience of designing, installing and commissioning Gravity Clarification systems.

Lamella Inclined Plate Clarifier
The MAK Water Lamella Clarifier is fitted with a plate pack to maximise the effective settling area of the unit and a conical sludge hopper in a small footprint. Lamella clarifiers are ideal for applications where the solid loading is variable and solid sizing is fine. Lamella Clarifiers are considered to be one of the best options for pre-treatment ahead of more sophisticated treatment technologies because of their ability to remove a significant solids loading. The MAK Water Lamella Clarifier can be integrated into a treatment process or as a stand-alone unit. Typical applications are for separation of grit or metal removal or any other application where the solids have a specific gravity >1.0.
The MAK Water Lamella clarifiers are capable of managing feed water with high concentration of suspended solids. Separation results will vary depending on the feed water quality and types of contaminants. The feed water enters the lamella clarifier through the inlet channel on the top and flows to the bottom of the separator. The water is led back to the top, on its way the water flows through the lamellas, onto which the solid particles settle. Treated water flows to the top and reaches the outlet by passing a weir. The sludge slides down the lamellas and is collected in the sludge funnel. A rabble rake can be installed to prevent caking of the sludge in the conical hopper. The sludge is exported at intervals.
MAK Lamella Clarifiers are suitable wherever high levels of suspended solids or flakes are present and require separation from liquids.
