MAK Water is pleased to announce the release of a new series of packaged sewage treatment plants (STPs):
The ASBR series was developed to fill a gap in MAK Water’s existing STP offering of Moving Bed Bioreactor (MBBR) and Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) type sewage treatment plants – providing a solution to market demand for smaller capacity STPs, that are not required to meet the treated effluent requirements for risk category high reuse applications:
Risk Category / Effluent Quality | Plant Treatment Capacity
10~125 m3/day | 125~600 m3/day
High / Class A+ | MBR series
Medium / Class A | ASBR series | MBBR series |
Low / Class C | ASBR series | MBBR series |
The ASBR series is divided into two products:
- ASBR: to achieve Class C or Class A effluent, with limited nutrient (T-N) removal, and
- ASBR Plus: to achieve Class C or Class A effluent, plus enhanced nutrient (T-N) removal
Some design features of the ASBR series are as follows:
Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Bioreactor
The ASBR series incorporates MAK Water’s latest innovation in packaged sewage treatment plant design: a proprietary bioreactor tank that is fabricated of corrosion resistant FRP.
Bioreactors fabricated from steel or plastic lined containers are inferior, as they are susceptible to rust and premature failure, and can be expensive and/or difficult to maintain or repair if damaged.
Compact Design with Internal or Containerised Plant room
The plant room houses the tertiary filtration equipment, pumps, chemical dosing systems and the electrical control system.
With the exception of the ASBR-125 and the ASBR+070, the plant room is internal to the FRP bioreactor – further simplifying site installation and reducing costs.
For the larger flow rates (ASBR-125 and the ASBR+070), the plant room comprises an external 10’ shipping container.

Transportable by sea, road and rail
The ASBR has been designed for easy transport by sea, road or rail.
The FRP bioreactor tank fits into a 40’ shipping container. This allows it to travel as general purpose cargo on a conventional container vessel, for cost effective shipping anywhere in the world, as well as providing mechanical protection from damage during shipment.
Hire Plants Available
The ASBR has been added to MAK Water’s extensive fleet of hire plants, which are available on short notice.
